School rowing provides supervised training sessions and the ability to compete at local, regional and state regattas. Rowing is a non-contact sport that builds team work and provides a good base of aerobic fitness. Participants develop a team spirit and are able to work closely in a group.
The following schools row out of our shed in Riverside Gardens:
School Learn to Row sessions are held towards the end of Term 1, with the main program commencing at the beginning of Term 2 and finishing at the end of Term 3. The school regatta series includes the annual Head of the River. Parents are encouraged to become involved in regattas as volunteers. Townsville & JCU Rowing Club actively supports the school regattas with facilities, boats, regatta management staff and safety equipment. Our schools regularly take rowers to compete in the Queensland School Championships and produce excellent results.
Only the senior crews of some schools keep training in Term 4 and compete at the Queensland Open Championships, with select squads going on to compete at the Australian Open Schools Championships and Australian Open Rowing Championships.
